Jazmine was born and raised to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Her mother Pam was once a backup singer for Philadelphia International Records. When she was 5 years older, her father was offered job as curator for the city's Historic Strawberry Mansion in the Strawberry Mansion section, and her family moved into the mansion's historical site. She is a 2005 graduate of the Philadelphia High School for the Creative and Performing Arts where she was singing music major. Sullivan started singing as a contralto kids' choir, and then a few years later in the adult group. Sullivan's exposure to secular music was initially minimal "I performed solos at the church, and I was asked to sign to the gospel label at age had turned eleven, however I wasn't yet ready," she recalls. At that time, McDonald's held a contest for kids in big cities. I had the opportunity to sing "Accept The Grace God Gives" during the show Showtime At the Apollo. And the people were very enthusiastic. Stevie Wonder sang her part on his birthday, 13 years old. Sullivan was signed initially to Jive Records at the age fifteen. As a teenager the label signed her to Jive Records. They recorded an entire album in Jive Records and it didn't get released. Sullivan was then dropped by the label. Her work had been in good relationship along with Missy Elliott. Elliott produced numerous tracks for her such as "Backstabbers", which was written by Timbaland.
